Jack Nicklaus said it best after Tiger Woods make a spectacular chip off the green on the 16th hole for an eagle which tied Rory Sabatini at -8 with two holes to go, “if he hits it long the tournament is over, if he hits it short the tournament is over, and he makes an eagle. One of the best shots I have ever seen.”
Tiger shot a great five under round on Sunday to win the Memorial for his fifth time to tie Jack Nicklaus at 73 wins on the tour. Tiger would go on to birdie the 18th to close the tournament out at -9. He birdied the last 3 of four holes to take the tournament in Tiger fashion of old.
Rory Sabatini bogeyed 16 to drop a shot and fall one behind Tiger with 2 holes left. He could not recoup to tie the tournament and take it to extra holes. Spencer Levin had a meltdown on the back nine and led the tournament on Sunday at -8 till the back nine when it all fell apart for him.
