Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse on Saturday at the Congressional after a storm on Friday night toppled trees and littered the course with debris. The course crew had its hands full to clean up the greens and fairways after the storm and make it playable, but had little time to get the area outside the ropes cleaned up for the fans. Very few spectators watched play on Saturday but that did not stop those players at the top of the leader board from playing good golf despite the sweltering heat and humidity.
Brendon de Jonge shot -2 on Saturday to take the lead after three rounds. Hunter Mahan struggled with +2 to fall to 5th place on Saturday while Seung-yul Noh, Tiger Woods and Bo Van Pelt sit 1 stroke behind the leader. Woods looked cool, calm and collected in the heat & humidity on Saturday while others withered away from the conditions. Woods had a great -4 round along with 4 other players.
The best round of the day goes to Bill Hurley III with a -5 round. Brandon de Jonge, Tiger Woods and Bo Van Pelt will be in the final pairing on Sunday. If Brandon de Jonge can hold of the rest of the field and win on Sunday it will be his first PGA Tour victory but that may be hard to do playing with a lot of fans around on Sunday and the pressure of playing with Woods.
